Information for schools and colleges

We regularly get questions and letters from students and young people who want to know more about Penneys’ ethical trading programme.

We believe it is particularly important for young people to ask these often challenging and complex questions. It drives greater understanding and awareness of what ethical trading means, and what the responsibilities and roles of government, business and society are.

While we are committed to answering every email and letter that we are sent, it led us to question the type of information that was available, both in the greater public domain, and on our own website.

We felt it was important to provide information that young people, teachers and schools could easily find and that was relevant to their questions and educational needs.

To address these issues, Penneys is working in partnership with educational organisations to create materials and learning resources for students, teachers and young people.

The Schools Project

Penneys is privileged to be working with the students and teachers of Aylesbury High School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to create The Schools Project, a ground-breaking online ethical trading educational resource and gateway for students, teachers and young people.

All the content on the Schools Project website was created, researched, written and designed by the students with support from a range of external non-governmental organisations.

The Times 100 Case Study on Penneys

Penneys has completed its first case study with the Times 100. The case study, “Providing consumers with ethically sourced garments”, highlights the work we undertake with our suppliers to ensure ethical sourcing as an element of corporate responsibility policy, and as a key contributing factor to overall business performance.

The case study helps to make young people aware of current issues around this important topic and provides real, relevant context to bring their studies to life.
